Guyana’s tech giant GTT throws its support behind HerVenture!

We’re delighted to announce a new partnership with GTT, the largest telecoms services provider in Guyana, to bring our HerVenture app to thousands more women entrepreneurs.

The technology giant has thrown its support behind our flagship business skills app HerVenture, in collaboration with both ourselves and our delivery partner in Guyana, ActionINVEST Caribbean.

So far, GTT have been promoting HerVenture through pop-up events in their stores, working with ActionINVEST Caribbean, encouraging women entrepreneurs to download the app and answering any questions about it. The mobile network provider has also been generously offering free SIM cards and data packages to support women with the initial download of the app.

We are also looking forward to working with GTT later this year to update the HerVenture curriculum and are particularly excited to see what new content will come from GTT’s mobile and technology expertise for our Mobile Money learning track.

Our CEO Helen McEachern envisages fantastic things from the partnership: “We are delighted to be working with GTT to bring business skills and knowledge to even more women entrepreneurs in Guyana through our mobile app, HerVenture. Mobile companies can play a powerful role in steering women to the support, products and services they need to grow their businesses. Through working with the Foundation and ActionINVEST Caribbean, GTT is helping to not only support the resilience and development of thousands of women-owned businesses, and advancing women’s economic empowerment more broadly. We are excited by the great potential our new partnership holds.”

The award-winning app, which has been used by over 3,000 women entrepreneurs in Guyana so far, fits learning into women business owners’ busy lives, offering essential business skills and training support ‘on the go’ and free of charge. It has been available in Guyana since September 2021 on both Android and iOS platforms, thanks to support from ExxonMobil Foundation.

HerVenture has supported thousands of women entrepreneurs in Kenya since its launch in the country in 2020.

In addition to boosting the app over their networks, GTT plan to support women entrepreneurs through offering coaching seminars over the months to come.

“Strengthening the community is one of GTT’s key Customer Promises. If the community has the necessary tools and resources to help them ‘rise’ then we all benefit,” says Damian Blackburn, CEO of GTT, “Women in business are entrepreneurs who often seize new opportunities in the business sector. They are entrepreneurial, hardworking and innovative – this is why we are proud to collaborate with the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women and support HerVenture users on their business journey.”

Ada Osuagwu set up and runs a business called De laundry Center & integrated service ltd; a professional garment care and home cleaning company in Nigeria. Ada attended the Cherie Blaire Foundation for Women's Road to Women’s Business Growth (R2G) project, developed in partnership with the ExxonMobil Foundation. The course was designed to build the business skills and financial literacy of women entrepreneurs in Nigeria. 500 women business owners completed a training course via an innovative ‘blended learning’ approach, combining in-class training with a unique, custom-built online learning tool. Women were loaned tablets with data connectivity to access the training. Ada was then selected as part of a group of 100 of these women who received additional intensive business support.
