Road to Finance in South Africa
Our Road to Finance programme was launched in South Africa in 2024, with support from our partners.
With the support of our partners, DHL Express and the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) Entrepreneurship Development Academy, we will be piloting our Road to Finance programme in South Africa in 2024.
In South Africa, women entrepreneurs face significant challenges in accessing finance. Although the country ranks highly in Africa for its support of women entrepreneurs, there remains a substantial gender funding gap. Women own approximately 21.9% of businesses, yet South Africa’s ranking for women’s access to business finance has dropped to 40th out of 65 countries, according to the Mastercard Index of Women Entrepreneurs. This, along with persistent gender stereotypes, can prevent women from accessing the finance they need to support and grow their business.
Road to Finance supports ambitious women to build their skills and confidence in order to successfully secure finance, grow their businesses and achieve their potential. Through four weeks, with additional self-paced learning online, women can access step by step guidance on how to get funding for their business.
Road to Finance participants in 2023 saw fantastic benefits
98% increased their access to networks
91% learned the benefits and drawbacks of different financing options
89% increased their revenue
The Road to Finance program enabled me to approach financial institutions and access finance. I had never done that before, but with the increased financial literacy I had developed on the course, I was able to take that risk and it really paid off.
