Dr. Ayesha’s Story: revolutionising healthcare in Guyana
Dr. Ayesha Wilburg runs a patient-centred centred clinic. She used the HerVenture app to increase her entrepreneurial skills.
The world should support entrepreneurs in general, whether male or female.
As a medical doctor, I have not had much business exposure. The app has been very helpful in terms of dealing with the business aspect of developing a clinic.
That is how I came to found Health Care International, along with my three male co-directors. The HerVenture app has been an invaluable resource in the transition to being an entrepreneur. As a medical doctor, I have not had much business exposure. The app has been very helpful in terms of dealing with the business aspect of developing a clinic. I have learned a lot about marketing, accounting and strategic business planning. I am now in a better position to juggle my responsibilities as a businesswoman and medical doctor.
I want to create an environment where patients feel comfortable talking to their doctor.
Health Care International is located in a mall, the only mall in Guyana that has a medical clinic that provides full medical services. Initially, we faced challenges with regards to attracting patients to the mall. However, we implemented marketing strategies that were able to increase foot traffic, and as a result, we are now running a successful business.
We provide primary care services to our patients, who have also helped to spread the word with regards to the quality service that we provide here at Health Care International. I want to create an environment where patients feel comfortable talking to their doctor. I would like annual medical check-ups to become the norm in Guyana, instead of the common practice of waiting until you’re sick to be diagnosed with diabetes or hypertension.
The world should support entrepreneurs in general, whether male or female. In Guyana, we are slowly developing our medical services to an international standard, and I think that everyone should support us to provide innovative and quality care to our people.”
