Every year since 2006 the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin Italy has awarded the Premio StellaRe award to a remarkable woman who, through her work, commitment and ideas, has broken new ground in a complex cultural, political or economic field.

This month our Founder, Cherie, received the prestigious Premio StellaRe in recognition of her dedication to women’s rights and her support for wider social justice issues.

Speakers at the ceremony included Patrizia Sandretto, Founder of the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, as well as a representative of the Lombard Odier bank which sponsored the event. The Lady Major of Turin, Chiara Appendino, also addressed the audience.

Cherie then took part in an on-stage interview with renowned La Stampa journalist Marcello Sorgo, during which she discussed the work and impact of the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, which this year celebrates its tenth anniversary.

On receiving the award, Cherie said:

“I’m proud to be held in as high regard as previous winners. The women of the StellaRe Club are truly inspirational – a museum curator, the first woman in the UAE to hold a government office, an architect, a Nobel prize winner and a molecular biology researcher, a physicist, and a philanthropist. To me, they represent what is possible when women are empowered to reach their full potential, which is exactly what my Foundation tries to do.”

Our thanks to the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo for recognising Cherie and the work of the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, and to our committed supporters Monica Mailander and Sara Carello for helping to bring the event to fruition.
